About my hometown

I came from Teluk Intan, Perak. It is the district capital and largest town in Hilir Perak and the third largest town in Perak. In the early days, the town was known as Teluk Anson. The main economic activities in Teluk Intan are oil palm cultivation and palm oil production. Therefore, on the way to Perak, we can see there are abundant of oil palm trees planted along the highways.

Landmarks In Teluk Intan

Leaning Tower of  Teluk Intan

The town is most famous for the Leaning Tower of  Teluk Intan built in 1885 by Mr. Leong Choon Cheong. It started to tilt fours years later due to an underground stream.(Yet my father told me it was attacked by the bomb😑) The tower was originally used as a water tower supplying the town. It has a clock at the top, which will rings every 15 minutes.(It still rings now!!) It also served as a beacon to guide ships into the port. Although the tower no longer stores water, it become a local tourist attraction. The area around the tower was covered with bricks and become a plaza. The street at the centre of Teluk Intan, Jalan Ah Cheong, is named after Leong Choon Cheong to acknowledge his contribution.

Batu Tenggek ( Sitting Boulder )

It is situated at the junction in the town centre. The rock was believed to be placed by a British soldier and was a size of a matchbox but grew bigger over the years. ( Is a lie obviously HAHA. I didn't fooled by anyone.😆) The boulder was built to commemorate the fallen of World War I & II.

The Best Eats in Teluk Intan ❤

Teluk Intan Chee Cheong Fun ( MY TOP FAVOURITE )

The Teluk Intan Chee Cheong Fun is different from the ordinary Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun. It is filled with jicama, dried shrimp and shallots. (And maybe some of their secret ingredients👀) It is eaten with pickled green chili, no sauce needed as it is already super flavorful. The most famous shop that sell the chee cheong fun is "Liew Kee ( Ah Lek ) Chee Cheong Fun"

                                                 Wrapped with plastic and newspaper

The shop always crowded with people even it is midnight

Rojak Ah Chai

The stall has operated for more than half a century and is greatly recommended by most tourists. The Rojak sauce ingredients is according to the boss's secret recipe which is the main attraction of the Rojak.

Sin Joo Heong Confectionery

This is their headquarter located in Teluk Intan. Their signature biscuit, 'Heong Piah' have a crusty outer layer with sesame as topping and once bitten, the maltose taste will spread throughout your mouth. I always feel nostalgic when step into their shop. My father always brings a big basket when buying their biscuits during festivals. The 'Heong Piah' also come with many flavors, for example, durian flavor. The shop is also the tourists' destination when travel to Teluk Intan.
